Yet again there were only minor changes to the T298, the new for 1979, 2-litre sports car and, with construction running from late 1978 to early 1981, it had a relatively long life and a healthy number were sold. There are no details in Lola Heritages of what changes were made from the previous year's T297.

The T298 proved very successful, winning its class in the 1981 Le Mans 24 Hours and taking the French Group 6 Championships for four years out of five. It was especially popular in both the French and Italian Group 6 Championships where at least nine examples competed.
