Like its predecessor the T296 there were limited opportunities for the T297 other than the Interserie Championship and National races in Europe and the US. The new car carried on with the T290 series design philosophy and it featured suspension changes from the previous year.
Other than Eugen Grupp, who scored a couple of class wins in the Interserie Championship with several other top four finishes, results were few and far between for the T297.
