THE LOLA T86/50
Race winner Pascal Fabre in the T86/50. (Lola Heritage)
The T950 Lolas design for the 1985 inaugural season of F3000, which used the T900 Indycar monocoque, had proved to be a disaster with a best result of sixth in the eleven race series. 1986 clearly required a new bespoke design and so the T86/50 was born and while it was an improvement on its predecessor it was still a long way behind its rivals from March and Ralt.
The full technical details of the T86/50 can be found in the Lola Press Release below.
The 1986 season got of to the best possible start for Lola with Pascal Fabre in the works car winnng a shortened race at Silverstone with three other T86/50s in the top six. The next round at Vallelunga continued the promising start with Fabre finishing second to Ivan Capelli in a March 86B but then the year went sour with just two thirds and two fourths in the remaining nine races for various T86/50 drivers with Fabre taking seventh in the final Championship standings.
