For 1973 Lola produced a modified version of the T280, the T282. Changes from the previous year's model were once again small and just a single car was built and supplied to France's Jean-Louis Lafosse to use in the 1973 World Championship for Makes. As with the T280 power came from a Ford DFV, a de-tuned version of the Formula One engine and in the World Championship its major rivals were the works Ferraris, Matras and Mirage-Fords also using motors originally designed for Grand Prix racing.
Competing in five of the ten rounds, generally co-driving with Lotus F1 driver Reine Wisell, the T282 took two sixth places against the much better funded works cars as well as winning a round of the French Sportscar Championship, Lafosse also won two more rounds in a T292. It would have been interesting to see what might have been achieved if a few more cars had been built and sold.
