THE LOLA T162

The T162 seems to have been a stop-gap measure while the T163 was being finalised, two or possibly three cars (see below) were produced in April/May 1969 at virtually the same time as the T163 was being constructed. Certainly Carl Haas used one for Chuck Parsons in the first two races of the Can-Am season before switching to the T163 and with a 5th and a 3rd it was cearly quite competitive.
There are no details in Lola Heritages about the chassis but, visually the most obvious change from the T160 is the new bodywork, lower and wider with the cooling ducts moved from the top of the body to the side. Presumably there were other changes under the body resulting from developments arising from a year of racing the T160s.

N.B. It is generally thought two cars were built however, the Lola Chassis Log for the T162 shows three cars: SL 162/12, SL 162/13 and SL 162/14. There are no details for SL162/12 but this in not unusual, it normally implies a chassis that was supplied F.O.C. to a works supported team. However only chassis 13 (this is one of the few number "13" cars built, normally Lola went from number "12" to number "14", missing "13" for superstitious reasons) and 14 are extant so did 12 ever exist?
