BMW decided, during 1967, that the Apfelbeck engine wasn't what was needed to fight the Cosworth FVA on equal terms so they developed a more conventional 4-cylinder motor that was both lighter and more powerful than the old engine. BMW them commissioned Lola to build a chassis to take the new power unit until their own Dornier-built design was ready and the new T102 appeared in October 1967.
The T102 was largely identical to the T100 but it had a subframe at the rear of the monocoque to take the engine and new bodywork that was fitted with the latest innovation, front and rear wings.
Considering the T102 only did a handful of races in 1967 and 1968 it was actually a competitive proposition taking two second places at Hockenheim and another at the Nürburgring.
Another shot of Siffert on his way to 2nd place at the Nürburgring.
