The owner of SL71/36, Archie Urciuoli, recounts the history of his car.

"I purchased this 1966 LOLA T70 Mk II Spyder, SL71/36, in 2007. It is one of the 67 original Spyders built, and was constructed on a steel and aluminum monocoque chassis, with light-weight composite body. It is powered by a mid-engined 350 cid (5.7 liter) “small-block” Chevy V8 with side-draft Weber carbs on a cross-flow manifold, developing approximately 500 hp. Power is transmitted by a Hewland LG500 4-speed gearbox. Overall weight is approximately 1800 lbs.

SL71/36 was originally purchased from John Mecom, the first U.S. Lola distributor, in 1966. It was sponsored by Colorado Plastics owner Richard Galloway, and raced successfully by New Zealander Ross Greenville in the Can-Am series and in various SCCA events across the U.S., including Bridgehampton, Laguna Seca, Las Vegas, Riverside, Road America, and Watkins Glen.

After crashing at Bridgehampton, the car was traded to Carl Haas (the subsequent U.S. distributor) for a Mk III replacement, was repaired and sold to John McDonald, who raced it in SCCA events in the Denver area. The car was subsequently sold to LOLA enthusiast Mac McClendon who restored it to “as new” condition, using much of the original tub and many of the original component parts.

The LOLA has joined my GT40 (the ex-Fittipaldi #1083) to be campaigned in various historic events, primarily in the U.S. In 2008, the LOLA won her maiden outing at the New Jersey Motorsports Park."
