SL73/107 was delivered to John Mecom on 17/02/67 and was then sold as a rolling chassis to Mrs. Duckworth of California, who ran a financial services business and saw motor racing sponsorship as a good way of publicizing her company. Purchased for $11,000.00, the car was picked up by Ollie Ohlson who would build the car up. It took nearly ten months to finish the car, Also purchased were two brand new Ryan & falconer 365cid Chevrolet V8s. By the time the car was completed, Mrs. Duckworth’s companies were on the verge of collapse, so she decided to sell the car and the engines to Chuck Jones, for “a big loss”.

Chuck prepared the car for the end of the season Can Am races in 1967, intending to be entered for Jackie Stewart, who, unfortunately, did not take him up on the offer as he was fully committed to Grand Prix racing. Chuck instead asked Rick Muther, recently returned to racing from a self-enforced hiatus, to drive the car. Rick retired at Riverside after 19 laps with a broken gearbox, but at Las Vegas, he finished sixth after spending five laps in the pits. Rick then embarked on resuming his Indy car career, one which would last until 1980.

In 1968, Chuck advertised the car for sale, and it was sold to Bill Young of Hollywood Sportscars. Bill’s first race with the car was at Riverside GP, first round of the USRRC, where he retired after only eleven laps when the gear linkage broke. At the next round at Laguna Seca he finished a credible ninth, and at Kent a sterling drive netted him fourth, just short of a podium. Bill then did two National SCCA events in September, at Santa Barbara and Cotati, and won both. There was however, no success story in the three Can-Am events Young next raced in. At Edmonton he retired after only eighteen laps when a sump gasket failed and at Riverside he had covered too little distance to be classified. Final race for Young in the car was at Las Vegas where he retired with a broken gearbox.

Bill sold the car to George Hollinger to replace SL71/48 which he had decided to retire from racing. Shortly after taking delivery of SL71/107, George flipped the car when testing it at Road Atlanta. The car was sold after that to a Texan, who had also bought George’s old Mk.II from Doug Abadie. The car was then one of eleven T70s which were “couped” by Randy Berry of Marauder Cars. In 1995 the car was bought by Lilo Zicron of California, he restored the car in 2010 back to Spyder and kept the coupe body as an interchangeable option. The restoration was completed in 2012 and sold to current owner Salvador Trevino of California, USA in 2013.
