1967 Lola T70 MkIII SL73/113

28/6/67: delivered by Lola as G.T. Coupe
5.9 litre Chevrolet engine
Gearbox No: LG600-13
Color: British Racing Green

Sold by the factory to Max Wilson.



1967:

13/8: Wills Trophy, Croft, Max Wilson; Broke CWP in practice, DNS.
09/9: Holts Trophy, Crystal Palace, Max Wilson; #114; 4th OA.
15/10: Paris 1000 km's, Montlhery, M.Wilson/David Hobbs; #2; 2nd in practice, DNF on 15th lap when lying 2nd (sump damaged)



1968/9:

Back to Lola where a B.R.M. 3.0 litre V-12 engine was fitted coupled to an LG600 gearbox and the car was turned into a spyder for Max Wilson. The car emerged again from the factory in early 1969.



1969:

17/5: Martini International Trophy 300, Silverstone, Wilson; 16th OA.
01/6: Nürburgring 1000 kms, M. Wilson/Mike Walker; #22; qualified 29th out of 73; DNF (accident in lap 1). Raced as a prototype and called “Lola-BRM T70P”.
06/7: 6hrs Vila Real, Portugal. Wilson/Mac Daghorn; #23; DNF
Comment from Portuguese race journalist: “The Lola T70 BRM "spyder" of Max Wilson appeared reconstructed and modified by his mechanic Paul Collier, after the accident that it suffered at the Nürburgring. The new front, about 5 cm lower than the original, was inspired by the one on the Lola T-163 Can Am. The car weighed 700 kg and had a BRM V-12 engine capable of producing 375 CV.”
20/7: 3horas Da Granja Do Marques, Portugal, Wilson; #86; DNF
13/9: Crystal Palace, Wilson, 4th OA.
26/10: 6 hrs Jarama, Wilson/Daghorn, 6th OA.


1970:

12/4: Brands Hatch 1000 kms, Wilson/Daghorn; withdrawn after practice.
19/4: Zolder 500 kms, Wilson/Daghorn. 3rd OA.
03/5: Trofeo Primavera, Jarama Group 5 & 6 race, Wilson/Daghorn; #74; 6th OA.
10/5: Fassberg, Wilson, 11th OA.
31/5: Nürburgring 1000Kms: Wilson/Daghorn, #14; Qualified 28th of 58, DNF (retired after 4 laps).

More recently SL73/113 was seen with MkIII Coupe bodywork.

Early 1970s:

The original Mk3 coupe body was refitted and car was sold to Brian Alexander.
1972 : Car registered on the road with registration number “JJB 44K” issued by Hertfordshire County Council.



1978:

Bought for around GBP 12,000 in co-ownership by Northdown Racing’s Ian Webb and Nick Mason (co-ownership). At time of purchase the car was being worked on by ADA Engineering in Shepherds Bush, West London.
GT Coupe body work was painted black when bought and 2 white stripes were added.



1979:

Oldtimer Grand Prix, Nürburgring, Webb/Mason, DNF (overheating)
Spa, Francorchamps, Webb/Mason, finished well down the field.

SL73/113 back on the track...

1980:

Sold to Alex Seldon (Guilford, U.K.) without an engine. A 5-litre Mathwell Chevy was installed and the car was resprayed in yellow with 2 green stripes.



1981:

Raced by Alex Seldon at Silverstone and Thruxton in the GT championship.
Sold to Mr John Bailey of Market Drayton, Shropshire.



1982:

June 10th: Offered for sale by J. Bailey in "Autosport." (ex-Hobbs T70).



198?:

Bought by Brian Redman on behalf of George A. Hurd Jr., Bethlehem, PA, USA.
Red with Mk3 coupe bodywork while in the U.S.
Maintained regardless of cost by Robert Hubbs of Square A. Motorcars Inc. for G.A. Hurd Jr. and campaigned extensively in the US historic racing scene from 1987 up to 2003 where it was frequently driven by Brian Redman.



1999:

Monterey Historics meeting, with Hilborn injection.



2007:

After 25 years of ownership by Hurd Jr., SL73/113 was bought by the current owner and the car was brought back to Europe. A full mechanical restoration was done on the car and it has proven to be competitive and reliable in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 European Historic racing season where it competed in the Classic Endurance Race-series as well as in the World Sportscar Masters.



Late 2009/Early 2010:

After the 2009 season, SL73/113 has been dismantled for suspension crack testing. At the same time, the body was removed and it has been repainted back in its original color of British Racing Green.
