1979 LOLA T506B HU64
HU64 came from the infamous Action Park in Vernon, NJ. When the park didn’t reopen in the summer of 1997, the Motor World attractions were purchased by a gentleman that worked at Action Park and was responsible for the Aerodium skydiving simulator and bungee jump towers.
He stored the Motor World attractions less than 10 miles away from Action Park at a company that manufactures ski chair lifts. Along with the Lola cars, there were also go-karts, Battle Action Tanks (tanks you would drive that shot tennis balls using compressed air), speed boats, and everything else from Motor World. As the story goes, his intent was to open a Lola track on the grounds of Sussex County Airport, but that never happened.
In 2014, all the attractions needed to be removed from the property where they were being stored, so the entire lot was put up for sale on Craigslist. HU64 was purchased by a gentleman from Chester, NJ who owned the car from 2014 until 2019 when it was acquired by Jeff Brazer (Wayne, NJ).
The restoration of HU64 began in November of 2019. The restoration is 100% “Action Park correct” and is likely the finest example of an Action Park Lola in existence. Any modifications to the car that were made by Action Park were left as is. Original parts were painstakingly restored, and new old stock parts were only used where necessary. The only change to the car was the removal of the gas pedal travel limiter. A seat belt was also added along with removable lighting to make the car street legal. The restoration took place over several years and the car was completed in 2023.
HU64 is a second generation T506, aka T506B or 506/1002, and was manufactured by Lola in Huntingdon, England in 1979. The T506B was slightly longer than the T506 and had improved suspension and brakes. The car was supplied from Lola with a Sachs Wankel KM24 engine, but at some point, the engine on HU64 was replaced with a Suzuki/Artic Cat 340 snowmobile engine (which is what the car still has today). Action Park liked this engine since it was continuously fan-cooled (very important during hot NJ summers), so they used it on most of their cars.
The car is now blue which was the original color (Action Park repainted the cars many times over the years). The car also has the same decals (correct size and font) that it had at Action Park.
The seat was reupholstered by Rodger Pisani of Creative Auto Interiors in Butler, NJ (formerly Tom’s Auto Upholstery). Rodger is the same person who worked on these seats in the 80’s and 90’s when Action Park would bring him 10 seats at a time to be reupholstered during the season.
HU64 not only keeps the Lola history alive, but also Action Park!
