1972 LOLA T290 HU2

This is an unusual case, two cars with the same chassis number, but, importantly not at the same time. A not uncommon practice, utilised when a chassis was replaced, was to transfer the chassis plate to the new tub to avoid having to redo all the Customs documents and FIA Papers etc. This would seem to be the case with T290 HU2.

Given this "tradition" both cars will be listed on the Lola Heritage site.

Hi Lola Team,

Yesterday, I believe I encountered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I acquired an original Lola T290 chassis from 1972.

I was informed that it is the first and original chassis of HU2, which was raced by Jo Bonnier before his tragic death at Le Mans.

The seller mentioned that years ago, HU2 underwent a chassis swap to a new one. During this process, many parts were taken from the original chassis, including all ID plates.

The old chassis was always sold with the complete car until the last owner decided not to keep it and gave it away to the person from whom I bought it.

My chassis needs significant restoration work and shows fragments of the blue color from its time under Gitanes sponsorship.

I hope to start a soft restoration and rebuilding project after I complete my current Ford GT40-MK1 project.

My goal is to meticulously document the restoration process with photographs and then carefully clean and restore the chassis.

I aim to recreate new parts as needed to accurately showcase the chassis's historical significance.

It is my dream to bring it back to life and preserve a piece of Lola motorsport history.

Best regards,

Christian Kamann
