October 2017 saw the return of the car to race at Paul Ricard after a gap of over forty seven years. Originally, back in 1970, this was the first T210 to take part in an International race: Driven by Lola’s European agent Jo Bonnier at Paul Ricard on the 19th of April 1970.
The car was delivered along with T210 SL01 to Bonnier in April 1970, SL02 was destined for one of Bonnier’s customers a Frenchman named Rejust Frassinet.
SL01 had gone to Bonnier for him to drive but was not finished in time for the race at Paul Ricard according to the race report in Autosport, April 23, 1970 by Jeff Hutchinson,
“Two of the new Lola-FVC T210s were entered, one the works car of Ecurie Bonnier and the other private customer’s car for a rich local Rejust Frassinet. Unfortunately only one could be finished in time, so the customer car came first, although Jo Bonnier was around to drive it and Eric Broadley was on hand to advise, the two of them trying to persuade Frassinet to give Bonnier the drive. The car was finished in plain blue and was the first of the production cars.”
Bonnier in SL02 finished in second place after leading for most of the race, retiring two laps before the end with a broken throttle cable.
Dirk Peters now owns SL02 and after having the car totally restored has raced throughout the 2017 season culminating in the last race of the season at Le Castellet in CER 1, Dirk is planning a full 2018 season of CER hopefully with a visit to Le-Mans Classic thrown in.
