LOLA GUN FOR MORE WINS AT SPA 1000kms

Lola sportscar customers head to the magnificent Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium this weekend, intent on adding more silverware to the historic double LMP1 and LMP2 wins at Barcelona last month.

Lola LMP sportscars are so far unbeaten in 2009 and with more Huntingdon designed and built LMP’s on the grid than any other constructor, interest in Lola sportscars has never been stronger.

In the LMP1 class, Lola will have three entries, two from the Barcelona winning Aston Martin Racing squad and one from the Anglo/Swiss, Speedy Racing Team Sebah.

Andrea Belicchi, who along with teammates Nicolas Prost and Marcel Fassler has enjoyed front running pace so far this season, is impatient to go racing at Spa in the LMP1 Lola.

“I am really looking forward to Spa and Le Mans because the Lola is so fantastic in quick corners,” said the Italian. “The team have been excellent this year and although it will be hard because Peugeot are at Spa, I believe we have such a good car that we can be right up at the front this weekend.”

Aston Martin Racing will also be looking forward to the Spa 1000kms after winning their debut race with the Lola Aston Martin B09/60 in Catalunya. Stefan Mucke, Jan Charouz and Tomas Enge took a well judged win in the 007 Lola Aston Martin and will be hoping that their Huntingdon built entry can again go for maximum points in the Ardennes.

LMP2 sees five Lolas in a very competitive entry list for this weekends race. Following a stunning debut with their brace of Lola B08/80 LMP2 Coupes including class pole position, the #29 Racing Box entry will be crewed by Filippo Francioni, Giacomo Piccini and Andrea Ceccato. The teams sister Lola-Judd of Andrea Piccini, Thomas Biagi and Matteo Bobbi took a fine LMP2 win at Barcelona, cueing wild celebrations within the ecstatic Italian team on a well-deserved victory.

RML will be looking to revisit their 2007 form when they scored an emphatic class victory at Spa, also registering a sensational 3rd overall. Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos tested the Lola-Mazda B09/86 LMP2 at Silverstone on Tuesday before heading straight to Spa and Erdos has a reputation as something of a Spa expert.

Speedy Sebah have also recently tested their LMP2 at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit. Jonny Kane suffered an accident in the Judd powered Lola B08/80 but hard work by the Speedy team and Lola engineers have ensured that both the Ulsterman and his team mates, Xavier Pompidou and Benjamin Leuenberger will be on the grid this weekend.

Kruse Schiller will make the short journey from their base in Germany to Spa hoping that the promising result at Barcelona augurs well for a podium finish this weekend.

"Although our last attendance here was not a very lucky one we are looking forward to this weekend with great excitement,” said team boss Kai Kruse. “The high speed character of the track makes it an ideal testing ground for the upcoming Le Mans 24 Hours and since the test day has been cancelled this is even more important than in the past.”
