Lola Yamaha ABT had a difficult penultimate round in London, with retirements for both drivers.
In qualifying, Lucas di Grassi went out in group A and despite having positive laps it wasn’t enough and he finished P10 in his group. Zane Maloney went out in group B and finished P9.
For the race, Zane lined up P17 on the grid, while Lucas started P20 after a three-place grid penalty from Tokyo. In the opening two laps, Zane and Lucas had made up two places each. However, on lap six Zane suffered a suspension failure and retired from the race. Lucas then received a five second penalty for speeding under the subsequent full course yellow. He came in to serve this at the end of lap 16, before taking his pit boost. Just a few laps later, Lucas unfortunately also had a technical issue which meant he lost brakes and crashed into the wall at turn 9, bringing his race to an early end and resulting in the first double DNF for the team.
"The race today was not as we wished. We had a relatively good qualifying and I was quite happy with the lap I did but it wasn’t enough to put us close to the front. In the first part of the race we managed to gain a few positions. Unfortunately, a technical error in the car made me lose the brakes, resulting in a small crash. Thankfully the damage to the car is limited and the team are now working hard to make the repairs so we can push one more time tomorrow."
“It was unfortunately a short race for us today. We made a couple of good moves and the race was looking OK. However, the wishbone snapped resulting in a DNF which was disappointing. We will regroup and give it one last push in the final race of the season tomorrow.”
“It has been a difficult day for the team. After lining up towards the back of the grid, both drivers were initially making up places but two different technical failures meant both cars retired from the race. We will now pull together and give everything in the final race of the season tomorrow to achieve a more positive result and hopefully end on a high."
