The Lola T91/30 was the final F1 design Lola built for the Larousse team, the other designs were the LC87 (T87/30), the LC88 (T88/30) both of which used the Ford Cosworth DFZ 3.5 V8 while the LC89 (T89/30) and the LC90 (T90/30) which used the Lamborghini V12. This year the team once again changed name from ESPO Larrousse to Larrousse and the car was called the Lola 91 rather than the previous nomenclature i.e. LC91.

There are no details in Lola Heritages of the T91/30 but one major change compared to the LC90 (T90/30) was the change from the Lamborghini V12, used for the last two seasons, to the Ford Cosworth DFR V8. The 3.6 litre DFR was getting a bit long in the tooth, tracing its ancestry back to 1967 legendary 3-litre DFV the DFR was introduced in 1987 for the use of the Benetton team. It was now in its final season as more modern high revving designs using pneumatic valve gear took over. The 1991 engine was producing about 620BHP, some 30BHP less than the Ferrari and Honda turbo-charged engines.

As in the 1990 season reliability was dreadful with twenty-two retirements and seven DNQs (mostly caused by reliability problems) from thirty-two starts with, once again, engine and gearbox causing most of the problems. There were only three finishes with two sixths and a ninth scoring just two points in the Constructors Championship to finish eleventh out of the nineteen manufacturers.
