THE LOLA T470

The T470 was a Formula 3 design and, like the T460 Formula Atlantic design, it was based on the 1976 T450 Formula Two car. A single car was built and tested by the works, it consisted of a three quarter monocoque with a tubular sub frame to take the engine, suspension was narrow track and outboard.

The T470 only appeared on four occasions when it was driven by Patrick Bardinon. the first two races saw it handicapped by running a twin-cam engine, at Silverstone it non-started after an accident and at Thruxton it was a similar story with the French driver "unhappy". At the third race, Thruxton again, the car now had a Toyota engine and it qualified tenth out of seventeen cars and finished eighth. The final race was Monaco where Bardinon qualified seventeenth in the first heat but withdrew as he felt he was too far back to achieve anything.

T470 HU1 was then rebuilt as a Formula Atlantic, T460 HU20, in August 1976 and it was driven by Tony Trimmer in the Indylantic Championship, in three races he won at Silverstone and took a second and third at two Brands Hatch rounds showing there wasn't much wrong with the chassis.
