A publicity shot of the T460.

The T460 was Lola's Formula Atlantic model for 1976 and, as can be seen from the drawings below, it was the same chassis/suspension etc. as the Formula Two T450, the full technical details can be found HERE. Ironically one chassis HU462 HU22 was actually built, in early 1977, as a Formula Two chassis and entered in two races in the European Championship.

Compared with the previous Atlantic design, the T360, the T460 had a narrower track to aid top speed and the suspension geometry was completely revised to improve the performance in medium to slow corners. Braking was uprated with 4-pot AP Lockheed calipers and ventilated discs and there was now a single fuel tank sited around the centre of gravity of the car. A new engine frame was designed with rubber mountings for the engine as the Formula Atlantic units are prone to vibration. The water radiator was also increased in size to aid cooling in warmer climes.

The T460 was another successful Atlantic car for Lola following on from the T360 with Ted Wentz winning the UK Indylantic Championship. Although the T460 only won once in the US/Canada it was very consistent with Bertil Roos (who also drove a Ralt RT1) finishing second in Canada's Players CASC Formula Atlantic Championship and Tom Klauser finished 5th. In the US Klauser was took another 5th in the IMSA Formula Atlantic Championship, winning at Mid-Ohio. As an aside it was an impossible year in Formula Atlantic in Canada and the US, unless your name was Gilles Villeneuve, as the brilliant young Canadian won eight out of twelve events and the non-championship Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières where he beat Formula 1 stars James Hunt, Alan Jones, Patrick Tambay and Vittorio Brambilla.

The Formula Two T462 was entered for Irish Formula Atlantic driver Alo Lawler at the 1977 Silverstone Daily Express International Trophy where it did not start and the Donington Park B.R.S.C.C. F2 Trophy where if failed to qualify.
