THE LOLA T294

1974 saw the introduction of the T294, its predecessor, the T292 that had won both the Drivers and Constructors titles in the European 2-litre Sports Car Championship, would be a hard act to follow. Sadly, the European 2-litre Championship was no longer the competitive series it had been, and the results were dominated by the works Renault-Alpines that scored almost three times as many points as runner-up Chevron in the Manufacturers section. Of the few T294s that raced it was only Fred Stalder in a Chrysler-Simca engined version that scored any results of note with bests of 4th at Clermont Ferrand, Misano, Hockenheim and Jarama to finish 6th in the Drivers’ Championship whilst Lola was 4th in the Constructors standings.

The T294 did take three class wins in the World Championship for Makes as well as winning the under 2-litre class in the 1975 SCCA B Sports Racing Championship driven by Mike Hall and Helmut Bross took the 1977 Interserie Championship. Generally, however it was not one of Lola's more successful 2-litre Sports Cars being third best to Alpine and Chevron.
