THE LOLA T292

The T292 at the Lola factory.

The T290 had proven to be a race winner taking 30 victories between 1972 and 1979 so the 1973 design, the T292, needed to be a step forward. As was Lola's practice, where the previous year's model had been successful, it was an evolutionary design and used the same monocoque as its predecessor but there were numerous changes intended to improve the car in the very competitive world of 2-litre racing.

Changes from the T290 to the T292:
Bodywork: New Nosecone/Headlamp Covers, Side Panels, Tail Section, Rear Wing and Struts.
Front Suspension: New Top Wishbone and Steering Tie Rod, Dampers and Springs/Anti-Roll Bar.
Rear Suspension: New Upright, Top Link, Lower Wishbone, Upper and Lower Radius Rods, Dampers and Springs/Anti-Roll Bar.
Transmission: New Driveshafts/Yoke/Spider/Metalastic Coupling.
Brakes: New Calipers Front and Rear (moved inboard at the rear).
Cooling: New Radiators/Ducts/Swirl Pot/Header Tank.
Fuel System: New Filler Assembly and Fuel Caps.
Plus Sundry Bits and Pieces.

The T292 fulfilled its expectations taking 32 significant wins between 1973 and 1976 and, most importantly, it won five of the eight rounds in the European 2-litre Championship with Chris Craft taking the Drivers' Championship in the Crowne Racing car and Lola taking the Manufacturers Championship for the second time.
