The T91/00 at the Lola Factory.

If 1990 had been Lola's most successful season in Indycar racing then 1991 would prove to be even better, out of the sixteen rounds the T91/00 would win thirteen of them and take the top three positions in the PPG Championship with a dominant Michael Andretti taking eight wins from Bobby Rahal with one and Al Unser Jr. with two. Additionally Michael won the non-Championship Marlboro Challenge at Laguna Seca.

The full technical details of the T91/00 can be found in the Lola Press Release below.

Designed by Bruce Ashmore the T91/00 was a refinement of the very successful T90/00 which had won twelve races and given Al Unser Jr. the PPG Championship. the dimensions of the T91/00 were the same as those of the T90/00 and the monocoque was identical although the finished article was thought to be stronger and have a more constant shape following the installation of climate controlled autoclave in the Lola Composites factory. Suspension was also unchanged although pick-up points were improved and the cockpit was reshaped to help taller drivers like Bobby Rahal and the steering rack slightly raised.

Although all-carbon monocoques were now allowed by CART the T91/00 retained the aluminium honeycomb bathtub that extended from the drivers hips to just in front of the pedals as Ashmore was not convinced that an all-carbon tub would be as safe in the event of a heavy accident.

During the 1990 season the Haas team had developed a vented rear upright and a "cascade" rear wing and these were now made available to Lola customers.

Lola dominated the field in numbers with their only competition coming once again from Penske with the PC-20, their drivers Rick Mears taking two wins and Emerson Fittipaldi one, other than a couple of older Penskes the only other manufacturer was Truesports making their Indycar debut.

Once again Chevrolet would dominate the engine front taking the win in all thirteen races, competition came from Cosworth DFS, Buick, Judd and a solitary Alfa Romeo fitted to a T91/00 driven by Danny Sullivan.
