The T89/00 at the Lola factory.

Things had been going relatively well for Lola in the CART Championship, the T88/00 took thee wins following on from the Championship winning T87/00 and the race winning T86/00 but competition had been tough from Penske and March and 1989 wouldn't be any different.

Full details of the chassis can be found in the Lola Information Pack which can be downloaded in a 32 Mb zip format file HERE.

The new car was basically an evolution of the T88/00 and the two cars were visually very similar, full details of the chassis changes can be found in the Lola Press Release below.

The season turned out to be all about Penske, with just four PC-18s racing they took ten wins to the four of Lola and a single victory to March in their swan-song season as the company was in dire financial difficulties and after selling off their F1/F3000 business would shortly shut their doors for good. A sad end for one of Lola's great rivals in many classes that, just four years earlier, had seen of the thirty-three cars on the Indy 500 grid twenty-nine were the March 84C.

Of Lola's four wins two went to Michael Andretti and one each to Al Unser Jr. and Bobby Rahal with Michael, Little Al and Mario Andretti finishing third, fifth and sixth respectively in the PPG Indy Car World Series final standings. Additionally Al Unser Jr. took the non-chmpionship Marlboro Challenge race at Laguna Seca.
