The T480 was built for Formula C racing in the US which was for 1100cc engines and allowed wings and slicks. The T480 was fitted with a 1098cc Cosworth BDJ engine, a short stroke version of the BDA, producing 150 bhp and used the Formula Ford T440 chassis/suspension with suitable chages for the wings, the American spec version of the T440 was already set-up for slicks.

The first T480 chassis was actually called T440C HU1 but was then replated as T480 HU1.
