The T371 was the successor to 1974's T370, penned by Lola's Andy Smallman, it was an evolution of the previous year's design. The most obvious external change was the relocation of the oil coolers to the back of the tub, just in front of the rear wheels. Under the body changes were small, notably revisions to the suspension and monocoque following lessons learnt from a year's development.

The T371 was once again a strong mid-field runner with both Tony Brise and Alan Jones scoring points although, once again, qualifying always seemed to leave the team on the back-foot although Brise managed to get in the top seven on three occasions. The car was initially entered as a Lola T371 but when Andy Smallman left Lola to join Hill's team the cars were then entered as Hill GH1s.

At the end of the season tragedy struck when the team were returning from testing the new Hill GH2 at Paul Ricard. Graham Hill was piloting his Piper PA-23 Aztec when, flying to Elstree Airport the plane crashed in thick fog. Graham and five other members of the Embassy Hill team: manager Ray Brimble, mechanics Tony Alcock and Terry Richards, driver Tony Brise, and designer Andy Smallman all perished.
