Fangio was touring Australia in 1977 when demonstrating a Mercedes W196 when, at Riverside racetrack near Melbourne, he expressed an interest in seeing the Lola. The Lola, BR-15, was then owned by Kerry Luckins.
BR-15 had been the Lola works car in 1960 winning the BRSCC Sports Car Championship in Peter Ashdown's hands.
