Steve Maxted on his latest exploits in his F2 T360.

Steve Maxted has already told us about the restoration of his F2 Lola T360, (you can read the story HERE), he now brings us up to date on his recent outings.

Since I raced at the Silverstone Classic coming second to Simon Hadfield in his F5000, a Lola T300, things have been a bit up and down.

We had a gear linkage failure in both races at the Oulton Park Gold Cup which was disappointing as I was in second place when this happened. We then went to Brands Hatch on the Indy Circuit and qualified on pole by over half a second from Frank Lyons in his F5000, another Lola this one a T332. I dropped a place at the start and then could not get past the F5000 and ended up getting tangled up with another F2 car. Up until then it was a really close race but it ended with some damage to my car, so we set about repairing it and aimed for a first race at Hockenheim in April 2007.

We decided to test at Silverstone three weeks prior to the Hockenheim and we managed to blow the engine up!! One new crank and four rods later we were able to make it to Hockenheim. We started the weekend with a top end misfire. It is a long story but we changed everything on the car, eventually found the problem just before race 1, it was the brand new plug leads breaking down at high revs, so we ran on old borrowed plug leads. Unfortunately one of these plug leads then fell off in the race! For that race I had qualified 18th and was in 6th when the plug lead came off and I retired.
