A collection of pictures from the F5000 race at Mid Ohio in August 1975.

Jacques N. Dresang has very kindly sent us these photos, taken at the Mid Ohio round of the 1975 SCCA/USAC F5000 series, which he bought at a garage sale last year.

They aren't of the greatest quality but I'm sure you'll agree they are marvellously evocative of the great years of F5000 and they feature several cars that you may not have seen before.

Featured are:

#1 Brian Redman Lola T332 [HU45] - Chevrolet V8 - 1st
#5 Mario Andretti Lola T332 [HU29] - Chevrolet V8 - 18th Retired
#10 David Hobbs Lola T332 [HU30] - Chevrolet V8 - 3rd
#22 John Benton Lola T330 [HU26] - Chevrolet V8 - 14th
#24 Evan Noyes Lola T332 [HU51] - Chevrolet V8 - 9th
#39 John Gunn Lola T332 [HU47] - Chevrolet V8 - 8th
#42 B.J. Swanson Lola T332 [HU42] - Chevrolet V8 - 22nd (See Below)
#46 John Morton Lola T400 [HU12] - Chevrolet V8 - 10th
#51 Al Unser Lola T332 [HU35-2] - Chevrolet V8 - 2nd
#52 Jerry Karl Lola T332 [HU49] - Chevrolet V8 - Did Not Qualify from Heats
#63 Danny Ongais Lola T400/T332 [HU10] - Chevrolet V8 - 15th
#75 Bob Nagel Lola T332 [HU33] - Chevrolet V8 - 12th
#88 Tuck Thomas Lola T332 [HU38B] - Chevrolet V8 - 7th
#94 Eppie Wietzes Lola T400M [HU9] - Chevrolet V8 - 19th Retired

At the start of Heat 1 B.J. Swanson crashed at the first corner due to his throttle jamming open, the impact caused the crash barrier to be torn from the ground striking Swanson on the helmet. Sadly, as a result of the serious head injuries he received, the promising 26 year old American in his first season of F5000 died three days later.
