T590 engine block colour

Postby Chrisw » Mon Jan 08, 2007 12:39 pm

Re-commissioning our T590 and wondered if anyone knows an appropriate colour to paint the Pinto engine block and rocker cover? It's tempting to do something flashy, but I would prefer it to be as historically accurate as it can be. Were engines usually matt black back in 1980?

It all depends who originally built the engine, they all had their own colourways e.g. Neil Brown had a matt black block with a silver cam cover, Minister used hammerite blue with a black crackle finish cam cover or Scholar with a burgundy block with a silver or black cam cover.
Another period builder was Nelson which I am not so sure about but I think had a turquiose block with a silver cam cover.
