OK everybody it's QUIZ TIME!

Postby Gerald Swan » Sat May 06, 2006 10:03 am

Since the Forum is a bit quiet at the moment I thought I might start a new thread with a bit of a quiz (idea unashamedly stolen from Autosport's Nostalgia Forum ), it's quite simple what's this Lola?

Clue: It's the engine that's the tricky part,

If you guys like the idea I've got a few other Lola mysteries up my sleeve and if you've got any you would like to contribute then go for it :).

If you're not sure about posting images then sent them to me and I'll post them for you.

Gerald.

That's OK Johan, all part of the Lola Heritage service :D.

If it's any consolation I had seen the pictures but hadn't really looked at them until Glyn told me what the engine was and I'm not sure I would have recognised it (although I would have kicked myself when told).

A clue; the engine-manufacturer is a very famous name in motorsport history but not for engines.

According to Glyn it's one of the T290 series, all of those, T290, T292, T294 etc. look pretty similar and I wouldn't want to guess which one without more pictures, I suspect the bodies were probably interchangeable anyway. I think the nose has been modified a bit for what I would imagine are oil coolers.

Glyn will be doing a bit of a write-up about the car but I thought I would see if anybody could recognise the engine.

Could it be an Alfa or Matra flat twelve?

No, not a Matra or Alfa but F1 is the right track :).

I did crop one of the pictures,

The signwriting above the cab gives it away. I will give Glyn a gentle reminder and there should shortly be something about it in the Scrapbook.

I'll sort another little teaser out over the weekend and if anyone else has something.....

Hi Driftwood, have a look at this page in the Scrapbook: http://www.lolaheritage.co.uk/scrapbook/017/017.htm which fills in some more details.
