Carl Haas records?

Postby RSFCA » Fri Jan 06, 2006 2:50 am

I am trying to document the history of my T160 and was wondering if anyone here has information that would help me to obtain any records from the original sale whether it be from Lola or Carl Haas who originally sold it. Any help is appreciated.

I have read that those records were discarded, in John Starkey's book.
If so , it is unfortunate. I get a lot of information by attending vintage races with my cars and often an "old timer" will start telling stories. I pay attention to the stories. It is much easier to search for people and cars history with the internet, so we are lucky in that respect. I have tracked down the original owners of a few cars and they do not seem to be bothered by it. They seem happy to be remembered . It might help to post some history as you know it here. Good luck !

Nick, if you let me have the chassis number of your T160 I will see if there is anything of help to you in the Lola records. It's amazing what some people can discover from the date of sale and the colour of the bodywork . Allen Brown at OldRacingCars.com is doing some amazing research using this kind of material.

Bruin, same applies, if you let me have some chassis numbers, the Lola records might be able to give you a lead at least.

Hi Bruin, thanks for those, I'll see if I can find anything for you.

Nick, I've spoken to Glyn Jones and he is going to see what he can find in the Lola records.

more Haas records

Postby chrisralph » Mon Feb 06, 2006 6:36 am

Hello Gerald, I'm part of the push with Bruin to establish a clear history for some of the Haas cars, notably HU56. The historic registration authorities here are raising their eyebrows over a biro mark in HU56's SCCA logbook, some saying it could have been altered from HU16. There is no doubt that the car is HU56 (gearbox number matches) but to add to proof if I could find out about HU 16 - so please add to your list! Many thanks and hooray for the website, Chris Ralph

Bruin and Chris, I've now got a copy of the T440 chassis record, details for the cars are:

HU16 - Date: 10/08/76, Gearbox No: H9 1256, Colour: White, Engine No: AS 76126, Destination: USA, Purchaser: Haas.

HU36 - Date: 17/12/76, Gearbox No: H9 1380, Colour: Royal Blue, Engine No: TFFG 76090, Destination: USA, Purchaser: Haas.

HU56 - Date: 07/01/77, Gearbox No: H9 1396, Colour: Viking Orange, Engine No: TFFG 76106, Destination: USA, Purchaser: Haas.

HU93 - Date: 25/04/78, Gearbox No: H9 1884, Colour: Golden Yellow, Engine No: TFFG 78182, Destination: Canada, Purchaser: Haas/Mosport.

Hope the above is of help to you both. If you need a scan of the original records let me know.

Haas

Postby RSFCA » Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:00 pm

Now if someone has any contact information to Carl Haas records that would really start the chain of information since a lot of the cars went through them. Does anyone here know anybody at Haas that could shed some light on this?

Greetings...............Regarding the early Haas records, I was told by an ex-Haas employee, that they were tossed out during a cleaning of a storage area. At thet time old Lolas, were just that. At that time I was trying to get some parts breakdowns/drawings for a Lola T332. When he came through with photocopies of several assemblies, I asked what else was available. That's when I heard the sad story about the records, diagrams, etc.. A restorer by the name of Bill Moir, used to be in Salinas, California. I believe he was on the Chusk Parson's crew in the 60's, if he can be found, he may have a bit of insight? Cheers!

Greetings...........Never purchased the "remnants". At the time, I was seriously considering acquiring what was left of the Clayton/Weitz/Gardner car, & a load of spares that Joe Cavaglieri (ex crew whief/then restorer) had. Cheers!
