The T70 continuation series - a great idea?

I met "Hobie" at the US Zippo Vintage Grand Prix and share his enthusiasm as he awaits delivery of his new Lola ! He has enlisted the Help of Dave Handy at Sasco Sports to help him get familiar with the car upon its arrival and to help with the constant care and feeding.
I want to be the first to admit that I am jealous !

Does anyone know if all of these were sold, or the build slots all taken? I'd be interested to learn what some of the various motors that owners are placing into them.

I'm amazed the webmaster for this site hasn't posted a nice selection of Continuation T70 pictures here........ oh wait a minute .

Good suggestion Johan, I could have sworn I had put up a selection but it appears I haven't, I'll try a find a minute over the weekend to put some up.

I am a very lax forumist, hence come late to this discussion, but heres my tuppnyworth. As an owner of a real, very original T160, I can assure you that I intend to race my car.....now that doesnt mean I'm going to go at 110 % and will try not to crash, but I am a firm believer that old racing cars should be used if the owner so wishes. Will the Devcon crack up and fall out of the joints ? Probably, but WHO KNOWS. What is all this guff about old tubs....

Now I dont understand Marcos (great name, if I had a son...), you dont align with ANY of my opinions on old cars !! They are not making Continuation T70 mk111 B's to win the current Sports Car World Championship....of course they are not going to win anything nowadays, but they sure as hell are competitve in Historic racing !! You speak as if you have no resprct for the cars....on the Lola website !!

Continuation cars represent NO threat to me as an owner of a real car. There is more racing to be had nowadays than your average amateur has the time and money to do, and I really dont believe they will devalue my car. I could even hope they may do the opposite.

As long as everyone knows which are real and which are copies (sorry, continuation) I dont see a problem.

Live and let live, and get on with having fun !

Cheers, Tom.

Johan, I need about 2 weeks to put the decals on, do the sexy 70's coach lines, and then take some pics......so bear with me. Believe me, when its finished you'll wish youd never asked for photos !

Hobie ran his car this past weekend at my event at VIR and it looks and sounds fantastic! I can think of no greater tribute to the marque than to have Lola build these cars...

The finish is superb and I must admit, even with a Comp Daytona (S III, '73 Nart LeMans entry), a 275 LM, a Maserati 300S, a 250 GT SWB and a 250 LWB Interim present, it still was perhaps the most popular car in the paddock and particularly on track.

The folks watching don't know or care about "continuation" cars and having driven both of Lee Holman's cars at Roebling and at VIR, from the drivers seat, they feel just as exhiliarating as the original...

We have three T70's including Hobie's car coming, as well as quite a few Sports 2000 cars (I'll be in T88/90 HU12) at the VIR Gold Cup in two weeks.

Johan, you need to make a quick trip up here!

Thanks Johan. There are now a couple of photos on the Chassis Register. I have thoroughly enjoyed my two brief sessions on the track, and can report that my original, ancient tub shows no sign of distress !

Interestingly, when I sent everything to be crack tested, one of the long radius arms (that run forward from the top of the rear uprights) showed up a crack in the area of the welded-in, threaded plug at one end. Knowing we would have to make another, I sawed through the plug to reveal its cross section, and where it was turned down to register in the tube, it was machined the wrong size. Quite clearly ! In fact, I might post it on the forum, just for interest..........or is that like telling tales out of school ??!!
