t91 - alfa v6

Postby knotan » Sat Aug 13, 2011 11:34 am

recently bought a lola t91
number 17, previously owned by frentzen with a mugen engine.

nowdays it has a alfa romeo 3l v6 around 250hp.

i will add two turbochargers this winter.
will not be using more than maximum 500hp, this is the first racecar i have ever driven so i need to practice with it with low power first

here is some pictures, and a few films.

turbos mounted and i just had to teststart it ofcoruse :D

now engine is lifted out,
i will change the heads to new with larger titanium valves, race camshafts and new headgaskets.

also need to improve fuelsystem with larger fuelpump, larger injectors etc.
i ´will drive it with ethanol e85 also.

when engine is lifted back i will also change the old electromoitve tec2 for a new link g4 instead, 8)

teststart, measuring at 50m away from car it is not so loud, 96-97 Db , but that is without boost, i dont know how loud it will be for real. swedich law says maximum 95 db for trackdays, might br a little problem , but hopfully it is ok

also finisched Ic systems. need to manufactur airboxes for each side and use some kind of piping/hose to get cold air for airboxes and intercoolers

Looks great, and sounds great too. You really are the turbo-man :) And I see, you have quite some work ahead too!

a few parts is sent away to a friens for chrome/nickel (turbo-exhaust-parts and oilreturn, generatorwheel and a few other parts)

i manufactuerd a larger generator wheel , need more juice in battery.
i am afraid a normal 044 fuelpump is a bit small , using ethanol e85 1260cc injectors , probobly 2 kilos fuelpressure + 1 bar boost , , with only 12v batterypower :o

also rebuild used nascar 7mm titanuimvalves , now i will use 46-38mm vlaves, standard alfa valves are 9mm 44-36mm and also heavy as h-ll.

i am aiming to use the engine to 8500 rpm. std revlimit in this engine is round 6500?? :?

also shifted camshafts to so called S-cams used in the alfa 75-164 QM vars, they will probobly be enogh to deliver round 240-250 NA hp, 1 bar boost should be perfect

anyone knows what gearbox i have in my car?? i shifted 5th gear from 1.28 to 1.14 a few days ago.
But i would rather shift also 4th gear and maybe even higher at 5th, i will mostly use the car at two tracks, mantorp and anderstorp, both tracks have high speed .
probobly would need a fex spareparts for the gearbox. when i bought it i had a few spareparts, but probobly would bee god to have more.

also had to manufactur custom valve guides , made them in a kind of bearing bronze

tried ti get 1/8" npt - AN6 adaptors in regular steel, but all i could find was alu,
i dont feel safe with so small parts in alu, soo...

probobly the smallest welding work ive don in steel, but tested and pressure-tight for 9 kilos anyway.

test startupp,

will leave car to engine tuning 28de february.

now only very poor mapping, rpm limit at 8200, will use about 8500-9000 when finisched i guess :D

sooo nice engine i started, and evertything seems to work...

a little bigger turbos will be mounted later, these will probobly deliver somwere like 400-450 whp, goal is 500-550 whp later
