t-492 chassis restoration

Postby tonz » Tue Dec 15, 2009 2:58 am

Hello all,
I am in the process of restoring a t-492 and I am in need of pictures, diagrams or drawings of the rear sub frame, preferably with the motor and gearbox removed. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Tony

This is my late T 492 chassis which had at this stage been almost unmodified.
The suspension and the rear crossmember are all March F2.
Hope this will help.

Does anyone sell that back unit as a whole? That is the only part of my 492 that needs repairs and rather than rebuild it myself I was curious if anyone made them for restorations. It's been removed from the aluminum tub where it connects by rivets.

Try Mark Stuart Racing in Basingstoke, England.

It is regular steel, imperial sizes and simple to make as all the main members are at 90 deg to each other, plus you have a pattern!

I modified mine to get the 911 engine in by cutting the entire top section out, and all is well.

You will get some advise from the USA or UK Sports 2000 web sites and find the specialists too, all in the UK though.

I only have the tubing to go off of. The backplate has bascially completely rusted away.

Yes, i remember the pics from before. The panel is a simple flat sheet with various holes to it no more but does have strengthening ribs welded to it on the 'inside'.

Stewart Racing have the drgs from Lola i think to make these parts.
I recall taking to a racer in the UK about 2 years ago who had a new tub and frame made in the UK, but i do not know the supplier.

You best route to the specialists is via the S2000 site I gave you above.

Changing the panel over will be a chore of a job, but not that difficult. Setting all the rivits will be a pain as I think the panel is glued in as well as rivited.

Peter is a great guy, and will offer lots of advice as he has to me over my car.
