Help to identify rear suspension uprights?

Postby 2002 turbo » Fri Sep 04, 2009 6:52 am

I am wondering if anyone on the forum could be of assistance in helping me identify some rear suspension uprights. While I am not 100% sure I think they may possibly be of Lola origins.
The parts were fitted to an Australian built Sport Sedan race car that was constructed in the early 1980s and featured quite a few Formula 5000 components. This was a bit of a trend during that period as the Formula 5000 category finished up in Australia. Many driveline/ suspension parts ended up being used in Sport sedan race cars as there was no other class at the time where these components could be used.

Details of the uprights are as follows:

- Width at bottom of upright casting:
Approx 245-250mm

- Width at top of upright casting:
Approx 50-55 mm

- Height of upright casting:
Approx 360mm

- Distance from bottom of upright to the centre point of where the axle runs:
Approx 210 mm

- Casting number:
D280/4014

I can tell you that they do not belong to a T-190 or a T-192. :(
Good luck!

Johan could well be on the right lines. I have a part number of D332-4014 for the T332 uprights although the D280 code on these could mean they were from the 1972 T280 3-litre sports car and then the same design (with a modified part number) was used on the T332.

Turbo,

Would you be interested in selling those rear end parts.
Or do you have any other parts of interest.

Cheers

Brett.

Hi,
Just seen your post,

These uprights are from the T280 DFV sportscar, they were also used on the T292, 294, 296 etc
They are the early versions and should be in Magnesium.

The hubs look like the Lola versions but the drive flange and drive shaft is not Lola.

The uprights were used on the T332 but were machined differently as were the hubs.

Hope this helps.

if you need any more info give me a call on 0044 1487 832 474 or email me on chris@lolaparts.com
Probably the largest selection of historic parts in the world.

Hi Brett,

to be honest the thought of selling has crossed my mind. I initially intended on using them for a project that I am building with my father but some aspects of the uprights aren't 100% suitable for what we want to do. Also the chance of finding a replacement upright if I ever damaged one has always been an issue that has played on my mind a bit.

The reason I posted them on this forum was to determine the exact origins of the parts. Not many people that I spoke to here in Australia could give me an idea on where they came from so all the members on here have been a great help, once again thankyou!

Perhaps send me an email if you want and I can give you some more details on some parts I have.

Best Regards
Erik

Hi Chris,

thank you greatly for all that information. You are correct the uprights are made from magnesium. I suspect the driveshafts and flanges may have been locally made here in Australia to suit the Sport Sedan type race car the parts were fitted in. The universal joints are GKN items.

Once again many thanks.
Best Regards
Erik

They were also used on the T460/T560 F2/Atlantic cars - possibly with slightly different machining - for instance these cars have in board brakes. I have several in my basement! There is at least one Aussie racing T460 and T560 in Ozland - he might be interested in them.
