Lola T492: long shot, but can you help?

Postby 911hillclimber » Tue Mar 24, 2009 12:54 pm

I am trying to track down a sale of a Lola T 492 in full S2000 trim that was sold to Harry or his son, Alan Humberstone in about 1987/8.
The car could have been incomplete or running.

The car was used to repair a badly crashed T 490 that was a Super Saloon at the time with a Karman Ghia body.
The donar car had some damage itself to the driver's side rear tub corner, the steel work was untouched. That might give a clue I hope.

The tub I have is that repaired car and has no Chassis number.

The Lola t490 destroyed was HU #6 out of interest.

Hope someone can help me!

Graham.

Things have moved on thanks to 10/10ths web site.

It would seem that the T 492 car used for the re-tubbing of my Lola (which was T 490 HU6 when new) might have come from Brian Davies at Autoquip in the south east of the UK.
This would be about 85/86 ish.

The re-tubbing might have been carried out by Tony Harman and John Schnieder (the former of Haggispeed fame) on behalf of Harry Humberstone or his son, Alan.

The re-tubbed car was widened with new side pods to align with the fibreglass Karmann Ghia body fitted, painted in pink with a black stripe and huge wing.

Does any of this ring a bell please with anyone on here??

A suggestion is that a Mr Chris Crawford might have sold his body-less T 492 to Harry Humberstone in about 1986 ish.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Made some specific progress tonight.

I am looking to trace the owner of an S2000 T 492 which had an orange body in 1986 and was from Whitstable or Herne Bay.

The owner might be a Mr Tony Baskhill.

This car was sold to Harry or Alan Humberstone.

Ring any bells please?
