I'm trying to assemble an ownership history of this car.

It was #3 of the first 5 brought in by Carl Haas in 1978.

Then owned by Mark Daniels until 1983. Then sold to Las Vegas where it was run lightly and stored for many years. Then bought by 2 guys in California somehow connected to Tim Allen, the comedian, then bought by Nick Slevin.

Can anybody help with the Las Vegas and 2 guys in California?

Thanks

Walter:
I have a very early T 490 (see below).
Do you have a similar picture of your #3 car to share with me please?

Graham. (in the UK)

Graham - sorry, don't have any photos of the undressed front of the car - I'll take some shortly and send them to you. Here's a shot of the back end, with a YAC engine - and a shot of the car taken at the VARAC Festival yesterday at Mosport, Canada.

Finally, I put together a history of my car you may like to see - it's here:

Walter:
Thank you very much for the pictures!
I have found your car several times recently in my search for history on my tub.
Is that a stock Hewland Mk 9 box?

Those pics will be invaluable for thr re-build of my car as it is a gutted roller at present, but I am trying to decide on the engine/box to fit. The car will be a hillclimb car, not following the Sports 2000 route.

Regards, Graham from England.

Graham - sorry, been away.

Yes, mine's a standard Hewland Mk. 9 - but it is very marginal with the YAC as it's generally thought that the Mk. 9's are good to about 175 h.p. or thereabouts - the YAC puts out more than that - around 200 at the wheels.

As a result, I try to run Mk. 9 "S" gears or Mk. 5 gears. Even so I stripped 2nd (Mk. 9 "S" set) at the Mosport Festival a few weeks go. You could actually feel the teeth departing, through the gearlever - I had to run the Enduro in 3/4th only as I didn't risk moving the 1/2 dog ring - there was obviously a lot of debris in the oil that day!

If you are not stuck on S2000 racing, you might look at the next series from Hewland - the FT200 series - they can take a lot more power.

It has been a very long time since i came to this site.
Thanks for the info Walter. My t 492 is now a very different car to my first pic.
It now has a Porsche flat 6 engine and gearbox, 3200cc on webers.
About 250 bhp and 230 lbft torque.
It is taking some installation but I'm nearly there now. Lots to do.

Looked very hard at the FT200 but that could only tolerate 200 lbft with hillclimb slicks.

Will be quite fast when all done, but will add a bit of weight too, about 600Kg all up I hope, less me.

Walter, the Mk 9 and Mk 5 gears are not interchangeable. The shaft diameter is is 1" on the Mk 8/9 gears and 1 1/8"on the Mk 5. Mk 5 gears will take all the YAC power you can dish out. No need for an FT box.

I guess you're not going to put a Pinto back in?
