LOLA T-142 Stub Axle Removal

Postby Lothar Kremer » Tue Jul 17, 2007 9:40 pm

I am in the process of removing the stub axles from the rear uprights. Is there a "trick" to pressing them out? It appears there is some form of taper washer beneath the retaining nut? How is it removed?

Is there a shop manual available for this car?

Thanks for all your help.

I made an axle driver tool out of cold rolled steel rod. I used 1" dia x 12" rod and scrounged around and found a piece of tube that just slipped over it, welded 1" of it to the rod about 2" from the end. I used this tool as a driver and hit it with a hammer. The hammering seems to help dislodge the tapered lock ring from the axle end.

There is no shop manual, you need to make friends with someone who knows what to do...
