Another mystery photo quiz ...

OK, I can't let Gerald have all the fun. This time it's my turn.

I'm looking for the name of the driver, the track and the race meeting. No prizes for the car, unless you can tell me the chassis number?

Best regards.

Chassis number 3 of the original Lola GT? :wink: I really have no idea what the chassis number is, but as no else has responded I am hopeful my post promotes discussion. I am curious to know the answers.

Well I'll continue it a bit further with Silverstone.

Silverstone is correct Gerald - only one MK6 GT raced at Silverstone (and I'm afraid it's not the third chassis Robin). So who is the driver and why does the car not have a race number?

Best regards - Rob

Correct Johan.

John Surtees tested the MK6 on 10 May 1963, thinking he would be racing it the following day at the International Trophy. However, just before the race, Surtees was barred by Ferrari from taking the wheel, as he had contracted to drive for Ferrari a short time earlier. At the eleventh hour Surtees suggested to Eric Broadley that his friend Tony Maggs should race the car. A hasty plea on the loudspeaker brought Maggs hurrying to the pits. Although the MK6 had its problems and started from the back of the grid, Maggs ended up finishing 5th overall and 3rd in class.

Apparently, Eric Broadley drove the MK6 from the Lola workshop in Bromley to Silverstone and back again after the race. It must have been some sight on the roads ...

Rob, I wish you would start a MK 6 thread and tell us something about what has to be one of the neatest little cars ever made, with pictures !

..... and the fact that every aspect of the story that Rob tells would be impossible/inconceivable just over 40 years later means that motor sport has;

a) Improved

b) Gone to hell in a handbasket

Discuss :lol:.
