Race 1

Former Lola-Dome F3 racer Marco Bonanomi took a surprise win in the first race at Vallelunga near Rome on Sunday.

The Fisichella Motorsport racer had not won a race since Mugello earlier in the year but triumphed after taking the lead on the final lap from the unlucky Roldan Rodriguez who was forced to slow with a technical problem. He eventually finished in Euronova’s Jerome D’Ambrosio.

Rodriguez has started from pole position and led comfortably throughout the race, opening up a sizeable gap to the second placed Lola B2/50 of Bonanomi. The second Fisichella Lola of Giacomo Ricci finished in 5th place to retain his title lead, but now only by 3 points in the Euroseries and by 2 points in the Italian series.

The famous Minardi name was also represented on the podium with Brazilian A1 GP star, Tuka Rocha coming home in 3rd place. Vitaly Petrov took 4th place for while Fausto Ippoliti rounded out the top 6.

In the Rookie standings, Coloni Motorsport racer, Frankie Provenzano took the honours with an impressive 10th overall.

The only incident of the race befell Stefano Attianese (Avelon Lola) who spun off at the Trincea Turn.

Race 2

Fausto Ippoliti in his Minardi Lola took the chequered flag to win the 2nd race of the F3000 Euro series and Italian series at Vallelunga on Sunday afternoon.

It was a popular win for the Roman driver, who took maximum points in front of a large home crowd. Enjoying a superb start, Ippoliti vaulted from the second row of the grid to challenge pole sitter, South African – Gavin Cronje by lap 2.

Russian racer, Vitaly Petrov challenged the Minardi Lola but had to settle for 2nd place. Completing the podium was series points leader Giacomo Ricci in 3rd. His Fisichella team mate, Marco Bonanomi, who won the earlier race, could only finish in 10th place after damaging his rear tyre after contact with Cronje, who himself was forced to retire. Still, Bonanomi still set the fastest lap of the race during an impressive comeback drive.

Tuka Rocha took 4th place for Minardi while Roldan Rodriguez drove a terrific race from the back of the grid to claim 6th.

In the title race, Ricci leads team mate Bonanomi by 6 points in the Euroseries as they head to Misano on the Adriatic coast for the final races of the season this weekend. Ricci also enjoys a 5 point cushion in the Italian series.
