French drivers reigned supreme at Sugo in the latest round of the 2006 Formula
Nippon series over the weekend.
Nakajima driver, Loic Duval headed home the Team Impul pairing of Benoit Treluyer and Tsugio Matsuda to claim his second win of the year. Treluyer now leads the
series points standings by 16 points with just 20 points up for grabs at the final two races of the season, which are to be held at Motegi and Suzuka.
As seems to be the custom in Formula Nippon this season the track was wet as the cars started the race and many drivers fell pray to the tricky conditions.
Among those skating off the undulating track situated in the Miyagi Prefecture were Duval’s team mate Andre Lotterer and former Super Aguri F1 driver Yuji Ide.
As a result of his non finish, Lotterer has been pushed back to 4th place in the points table behind Matsuda and Duval.
Finishing in his best ever position at Sugo was Italian racer Ronnie Quintarelli in his IngIng Lola-Toyota. Rounding out the top six were reigning champion Satoshi Motoyama and 2003 F3000 champion Bjorn Wirdheim.
The penultimate round of the series takes place at Motegi on 22 October
