THE LOLA T286

pic
The T286 had substantial changes to the suspension from the T282 model. At the front the top mounting for the damper was changed and the rear pickup point for the top wishbone was moved from the tub to the new damper mounting. A new, more conventional anti-roll bar was fitted in place of the rather angular T282 design. At the rear much more substantial driveshafts were employed and the two crossmember plates attached to the top of the gearbox for the suspension were replaced with a complicated tubular steel frame which allowed for shorter dampers by dropping the top mounting point by several inches and the usual Lola reversed lower wishbone was replaced by twin parallel links.

Primarily designed for the 3-litre Ford DFV, contemporary reports said that it would also take a 5-litre Chevrolet V8 or a 3.4-litre GA Series Ford V6. The first chassis was Invoiced in March 1976, the next two in 1977 and the fourth in 1984. The reason for the delay for the fourth chassis seems to be because, although the car was built at the same time as the others to an order from Alain de Cadenet, he changed his mind and it stayed in storage at Lola's until bought in 1984 for the UK Thundersports series.
