THE LOLA T120
In 1967, in addition to running the T100 with the 1.6-litre Apfelbeck engine BMW were also competing in the European Hillclimb Championship and for this they commissioned Lola to build a car to take a 2-litre version of the Apfelbeck. The new car was the T120 (known to BMW as the G767), built to Group 7 regulations unusually it used a spaceframe chassis.Suspension was conventional, wishbones at the front with a lower wishbone and top link at the rear with outboard spring/damper units all round.
Drven by Dieter Quester the car took three third places in the Hillclimb Championship, losing to the two works Porsche 910 Bergspyders but, on the race track at Aspern and Innsbruck he took two race wins beating a host of Porsches and Chevrons.
For 1968 the car received an updated bodywork but the chassis to be largely unchanged and to BMW it was now the G768. Once again it went well in the Hillclimb Championship taking four second places but this might have been something to do with the fact that Porsche only entered one Bergspyder.
